Abstract

In 1994, Professor of English and American History, Elaine Scarry of Harvard University, delivered the Georgetown Law Center’s fourteenth Annual Philip A. Hart Memorial Lecture: "Thinking in an Emergency."

Elaine Scarry is the Walter M. Cabot Professor of Aesthetics and the General Theory of Value at Harvard University. Her books include Thinking in an Emergency (2011); On Beauty and Being Just (1999); Dreaming by the Book (1999); Fins de Siecle (1995); Resisting Representation (1994); ed., Literature and the Body (1988); The Body in Pain: The Making and Unmaking of the World (1985).
